FCE Match Preview & Press Notes: vs Atlanta Silverbacks - July 19
July 17, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB (July 17, 2014) - FC Edmonton will face off against Atlanta Silverback on Saturday, July 19 at 5:30 p.m. MT down in Atlanta, Georgia. Here are three storylines to get you set for the match
Home Coming
For three FC Edmonton players it will be a home coming of sorts. Horace James, Milton Blanco and Alberto "ËBeto' Navarro spent the 2013 North American Soccer League (NASL) season with the Atlanta Silverbacks. Combined, they have appeared for the Silverbacks over 70 times in the since 2012 and Navarro, in fact, was a Silverback less than seven days ago.
"I have mixed emotions about going back to Atlanta," said Navarro when asked about his return. "Some people might not be happy to see me pull on a blue jersey, but I'm happy that I get to see some of my former teammates this soon."
Blanco and James have been with FC Edmonton since the start of the 2014 NASL Spring Season. With a combined 15 appearances for the Eddies since the Spring Season kick off, James scored against his old club in a 2-1 loss to Atlanta on May, 24 with a cheeky back heel volley.
Atonement
It's safe to say that no one was happy with FC Edmonton's most recent result against Ottawa Fury FC in the Eddies Fall Season home opener. FC Edmonton's head coach Colin Miller was no exception. The Eddies will look to make up for all the mistakes perhaps made on Sunday when they play this weekend against Atlanta.
"We've regrouped a great deal since Sunday," said Miller. "We knew we were poor by our standards and that we've let our fans down. We have addressed these issues at training this week and will be prepared heading into Saturday."
Miller and the rest of the team are looking forward to making up some ground against Atlanta. With a full three points, FC Edmonton could jump ahead of the Silverbacks in the NASL standings.
"We're certainly wanting to be quicker in possession in the ball," said Miller. "The quality of the pass and speed and we were too easy to defend against and too one dimensional."
