Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release

Fort Lauderdale, Fla (October 3, 2014) - The Strikers are looking to continue their home dominance against the Carolina RailHawks on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at Lockhart Stadium as the Chase for The Championship heats up. Carolina, having played one game more than the Strikers, sit five points clear in the NASL Combined Standings, though the Strikers, unbeaten against Carolina at Lockhart, will attempt to seize upon an opportunity to close the gap.

The Strikers did not play Saturday, as inclement weather conditions postponed the much-anticipated Florida Derby clash against Tampa Bay Rowdies at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, Fla. The match has since been rescheduled for Wednesday, October 8th. Prior to that, the Strikers pulled off a vital 2-1 victory against Indy Eleven at Lockhart on September 20.

For Saturday's opponents, the Fall Season has been an uncharacteristic one. Historically formidable at home but weak on the road, the RailHawks lost their incredible 23-match home unbeaten streak in NASL and U.S. Open Cup play, while finding form on the road. Carolina has lost four times in seven home matches this Fall, while claiming full points in New York, Tampa Bay, and Indianapolis to occupy third in the Fall Season and fourth in the Combined Standings.

"As I have stated before, all of our remaining matches are vital," said Strikers Head Coach G-nter Kronsteiner. "This match against Carolina, along with our upcoming games at Tampa and at Carolina, are the most important ones. If we want to capture the final spot in the Championship, we must win these games. Our team will be ready for a big challenge on Saturday night against a team that also recognizes the importance of this game. It should be an intense fight to the finish."

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers will recognize Breast Cancer Awareness month at this weekend's match against the Carolina Railhawks. The team has partnered with Susan G. Komen and will donate $5 of every ticket purchased online using the promotion code KOMEN back to Susan G. Komen. The team will also recognize a group of breast cancer survivors during half-time of the match.

The game will be streamed online through NASLLive.com. Fans can subscribe to the service to watch every game in the Fall season. You can also follow the action on Twitter at @FTLStrikers.
