
Strike Force Training Camp Preview: Running Backs

SAN DIEGO, California - The Strike Force have locked in two running backs as a part of their 2020 IFL preseason roster.
On February 22nd, training camp will officially kick off entailing two practice weeks prior to the team's Week 1 road matchup in Bismarck, North Dakota against the Bucks. The Strike Force will bring a 40-man roster into the start of camp and then narrow down the roster to 25 for the regular season.
"We have two versatile backs coming into camp who have each proven themselves in the indoor game," said Strike Force General Manager Ryan Eucker. "We expect both to contribute in Jameel's offense with the ability to be effective runners, pass catchers, and special teams' threats. It's going to be a fun one-two punch to watch."
Nathaniel Chavious (5-10, 210, Sacred Heart University) joins the Strike Force for his second season in the IFL after being acquired as a Restricted Free Agent from the Cedar Rapids River Kings. In 2019, he saw action in 14 games and ended the season ranked sixth in the IFL with 1,256 all-purpose yards. His production included 112 rushes for 395 yards and 13 touchdowns. Adding 20 receptions for 162 yards and 699 kick returns yards on 34 attempts with two scores. Collegiately, he totaled 3,715 all-purpose yards, averaging 5.5 yards per carry. He sits second in school history for yards, carries, and was a two-time Northeast Conference Champion.
Lyle McCombs (5-8, 195, University of Connecticut) comes San Diego as a veteran of the IFL after spending stints with Nebraska Danger and the Sioux Falls Storm. During the 2018 season McCombs returned from injury to start every game, helping the Storm to an 11-3 record and a United Bowl Appearance. He was voted Most Improved Player and earned Season Team All-IFL honors after ranking fourth in the IFL in rushing yards (437) and rushing touchdowns (15). Collegiately, he totaled 2,623 rushing yards, 523 receiving yards, 40 punt returns, and 444 kick returns in 35 games played (averaged 103.7 yards per game). He led the Huskies in rushing during the 2011 (freshman season) and 2012 campaigns for which he was ranked 29th in the country in rushing (95.92 yards per game) and was second in the Big East. He was named Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America, Second Team All-BIG EAST selection, team[apos]s Offensive Player of the Year, and was the second-leading freshman rusher in the country.
