San Diego Strike Force News Release

SAN DIEGO, California - The Strike Force have re-signed defensive back Tyler Thornton to their 2020 Indoor Football League roster.

Thornton (5-8, 195, Azusa Pacific) returns to the Strike Force lineup after coming off injured reserve from the 2019 season. Appearing in three games last season, Tyler racked up 34 tackles and one interception.

Tyler spent time with the San Diego Fleet before the AAF shutdown in 2019. Prior to the Fleet, he spent time in the Canadian Football League with the Edmonton Eskimos during the 2016 campaign. He appeared in 10 games, earning one start and totaling 12 tackles one forced fumble and one interception.

"Tyler packs a punch from the defensive backfield and has a real nose for the football," said Strike Force General Manager Ryan Eucker. "Having a few games under his belt should prove valuable as he comes into camp fully healthy and ready to compete for a roster spot."

Collegiately he played for Azusa Pacific University Cougars where he totaled 291 tackles (162 solo, 129 assisted), nine tackles for loss, 13 interceptions, 14 pass breakups, and seven forced fumbles. He earned All American honors during the 2013-2014 season and was the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the year. Tyler is a native of Bakersfield, California.
