Tri-City Storm News Release

KEARNEY - The Tri-City Storm is hosting a "Street Hockey & Hot Dogs" event to help promote the team's annual Pack It In Purple game that benefits the United Way of the Kearney Area.

The team appearance is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hilltop Mall in Kearney.

Storm players will play street hockey in the Herberger's parking lot, while mascot Stormy and staff serve free Sheboygan hot dogs and Coke for lunch while supplies last. Nebraska Lottery scratch cards will also be handed out to select fans.

The event will be moved inside if needed due to weather.

The Storm's Pack It In Purple game is Saturday against Green Bay. In its 7th year, the signature game features the annual United Way Jersey Auction, which includes a postgame auction of game-worn jerseys. All money from the auction goes to the United Way of the Kearney Area.

The "Street Hockey & Hot Dogs" outing on Wednesday is one way the team is building interest in the game and jersey auction.

"We like to find a way to generate excitement for our Pack It In Purple game," said Kyle Means, the Storm's vice president of marketing and game operations. "This brings a taste of hockey out to the community and reminds people just how special this game is because of the money raised for the United Way of the Kearney Area."

Last year, the jersey auction brought in $16,425. In the 12 seasons the Storm has hosted the event, more than $172,000 has been collected for the United Way of the Kearney Area.

"Street Hockey & Hot Dogs" is sponsored by Hilltop Mall, United Way of the Kearney Area, Herberger's, Sheboygan, Nebraska Lottery and Coca-Cola.
