February 19, 2005 - NBA G League (G League)
Roanoke Dazzle News Release
ROANOKE, Va. â The Roanoke Dazzle stayed atop of the NBDL standings as they beat the Fayetteville Patriots 107-97 Saturday night at the Roanoke Civic Center. The Dazzle, on an impressive five game winning streak, was led by the league's leading scorer Matt Carroll who had 32 points.
The game was fairly close throughout, but Roanoke (20-10) managed to outscore the Patriots (9-23) 38-24 in the 3rd quarter to give the home team a commanding lead. Carroll was seven for ten from the field with17 points in the third alone, while sixth man Isiah Victor added 11, trailing only teammate Carroll in league scoring. Posting 20 altogether, Victor helped the Dazzle stay tied for first place with the Columbus Riverdragons, who beat the Hunstville Flight Saturday night 92-79.
James Thomas, the NBDL leading rebounder, added another double-double for the season as he scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Cory Alexander had a double-double of his own with 16 points and 13 assists, while newcomer Seth Doliboa contributed 11 points.
"I thought we came out at the beginning of the second half defensively and got a lot of stops," said Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison. "We made some big plays when we needed them."
The Dazzle tipped the scales with a four point advantage going into the third quarter, topping out with a 22 point lead with 2:33 left in the third. Fayetteville would get as close as nine in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late for the Patriots as the Dazzle improved their record against Fayetteville to 5-1.
"It's tough, but that's the nature of the beast," said Patriots Head Coach Mike Brown. "The guys were tired and ran out of steam, but every team has to do the same thing. There's no reason to have as many turnovers as we did."
Former Dazzle player Mike King led the Patriots with 18 points, while league-leading assist man Omar Cook added 17. Fayetteville had four more players with double-digit scoring as Tang Hamilton put up 16, Ernest Brown notched 14, and Ousmane Cisse and David Young both poured in 12 points.
Roanoke faces Asheville at home Monday, February 21 at the Roanoke Civic Center at 7:00 p.m. For more information log on to www.nbdl.com or visit www.roanokedazzle.com.
