HUNTSVILLE, Ala., February 18 – The Florida Flame held the Huntsville Flight to just 12 second-quarter points and held on for an 88-80 win in National Basketball Development League action at the Von Braun Center. The Flame outscored the Flight 25-12 in the decisive quarter.

Leading 28-26 after one period, Florida turned up the defensive pressure and held Huntsville to just five field goals on 18 attempts (27.8 percent) in the second. Rodney Bias and Ronald Blackshear were the only Huntsville players to score in the quarter. While grounding the Flight on the defensive end, the Flame scored 25 points during the stretch.

Huntsville fought back to make it a contest in the fourth quarter, and pulled to within one point at 76-75 with 3:00 minutes left. After Kirk Haston's two free throws put the Flame back up by three, Huntsville turned the ball over and missed a pair of three-pointers on its next three possessions. Carl English buried a long three for an 83-75 margin, and the Flame made five free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Florida forward Kirk Haston had a game-high 18 points, one of five Flame players in double figures. Center Earl Barron led the Flight with 16 points.

Florida, which won on the road for just the fourth time in 16 tries, ended a six game losing skid and improved to 8-23 overall. The Flight lost their third straight, and fell to 17-13.

The sixth-place Flame continue their road trip tomorrow night in Asheville. The fourth-place Flight travel to Columbus to take on the Riverdragons tomorrow night.
