July 30, 2018 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - After going 11-for-30 (.367) with a grand slam and seven runs scored in seven games, Ottawa Champions OF Chase Harris is the Can-Am League's player of the week for the week of July 23-29.
The Boise, Idaho, native's first home run of the season was an impressive one, belting a grand slam Monday in his team's 10-1 victory over Quebec. He also had a pair of three-hit games on the week in victories over Trois-Rivières.
Harris rides a 16-game hit streak into Ottawa's next game Tuesday, where the Champions begin a three-game series against New Jersey. Ottawa's longest hit streak in franchise history is 17 games, set by OF Matt Helms on July 27, 2017.
Overall, Harris has appeared in all 68 of his team's games this season, hitting .295 with 11 doubles, 24 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He is in his first season in the Can-Am League after spending the 2016 and 2017 campaigns with Lincoln and Gary of the independent American Association.
Harris is Ottawa's second player of the week this season, following INF Daniel Bick, who earned the honors for the week ending July 1. RHP Jordan Kurokawa has received pitcher of the week honours on two different occasions, and was named the pitcher of the month in June.
Tickets for all Champions home games are available at www.ottawachampions.com, in-person at the RCGT Park box office, or by calling 613-745-BALL (2255).
