Chico Outlaws News Release

The Chico Outlaws are officially on a roll! Ever since an opening night loss that featured a late-rally, the Outlaws are a cool 6-0 since then, winning in every fashionable way.

Tonight, Michael Martin would pitch very well through five innings, and the Outlaws would jump on top 4-0 with one run in the first and three more in the third. But, Michael Martin was unable to get through the sixth, as Orange County rallied for all four of their runs of the night coming in the frame.

Donald Brandt, fresh off a relief appearance in Tucson where he earned a victory by consecutively setting down all 10 he would face, would enter and keep the game tied at 4. In the bottom half of the inning, the Outlaws wasted no time regaining control. BJ Underkofler would reach with a one out single, and after a Dan Luyben double puts runners at 2nd and 3rd, Underkofler would aggressively score the eventual game-winning run on a passed ball to make the score 5-4. Blake Gailen, hitting in the leadoff spot, would double in Luyben before the sixth ended, Gailen's second basehit and RBI of the night, making it 6-4.

Brandt would work through the seventh and eighth unscathed earning the victory, and Ben Shockey (pictured) got his third save in as many chances, bolting down the latches and keeping the win streak alive.

The Outlaws now will play an exhibition on Thursday night against the seniors from local high schools Chico High and Pleasent Valley. The GBL action picks back up on Friday when the also hot-starting Calgary Vipers come to Chico for their only visit of the season.
