Syracuse, N.Y. - Stephen Strasburg tossed six scoreless innings to help the Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, beat the Norfolk Tides 4-0 Wednesday night at Alliance Bank Stadium.

Strasburg (2-0) did not allow a hit over his six innings of work, retiring the last 12 Norfolk batters he faced. In total, Strasburg threw 80 pitches and registered seven strikeouts. The young pitcher left to a standing ovation after striking out outfielder Joey Gathright to close out the sixth inning. His fastball reached as high as 98 miles per hour on the radar gun.

After being held silent for the first four innings, the Chiefs (19-12) bats woke up in the fifth inning. Justin Maxwell started the rally, reaching base on a two-out walk. Outfielders Chase Lambin and Kevin Mench followed with a pair of singles. After a four-pitch walk to Mike Morse, Josh Whitesell belted a triple to the left centerfield gap, clearing the bases to give Syracuse a 4-0 lead. The Chiefs send eight batters to the plate in that inning.

Norfolk (15-19) tried to mount a comeback in the eighth off of Syracuse relievers Drew Storen and Ron Villone. A pair of walks and a Blake Davis double loaded the bases for the Tides. Ron Villone snagged a grounder back up the middle, tossing it to Carlos Maldonado at home for the force out. Maldonado fired to first ahead of Brandon Snyder, completing the double play and ending the Norfolk threat.

Chase Lambin picked up a pair of doubles for the Chiefs, going 2 for 4 and extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Pete Orr and Carlos Maldonado also collected hits for Syracuse. The Tides' only two hits in the game came from Josh Bell and Blake Davis.

The Chiefs and Tides play again Thursday morning in the series finale. Syracuse's Andrew Kown (1-2, 2.79) and Norfolk's Brandon Erbe (0-6, 7.20) are Thursday's probable starters. First pitch will be at 10:30.
