Gwinnett Stripers News Release
The Lead: The Pawtucket Red Sox defeated the Gwinnett Braves 6-0 on Wednesday night at McCoy Stadium. No Gwinnett player was able to get an extra-base hit on the evening. Braves starting pitcher Todd Redmond lasted only three innings as he gave up 5 R/ER. Gwinnett (15-17) is tied for second place in the International League South and 4 games behind Durham for first place. Pawtucket (14-19) remains in fourth place in the IL North.
It Was Over When: In the bottom of the 1st inning, Redmond walked his first batter, center fielder Josh Reddick. His second batter, left fielder Daniel Nava, then hit a 2-run home run that put the Paw Sox in front 2-0. Redmond would never recover.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: Redmond (3-4) struck out 5 batters in 3.0 IP. Vladimir Nunez gave up 1 R/ER on 3 hits in 3.0 IP. Cory Gearrin held the Red Sox scoreless in the final 2 innings of play.
At the plate: Desginated hitter Barbaro Canizares went 2-for-4. Center fielder Gregor Blanco went 1-for-3. Left fielder Matt Young went 1-for-3 with a walk.
The Opposition:
On the Mound: Starter Boof Bonser struck out 2 in 4.0 IP. Fabio Castro (2-2) earned the win, striking out 3 in 4.0 IP.
At the plate: Left fielder Daniel Nava went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and 4 RBI.
On Deck: Gwinnett faces off against Pawtucket in the final game of a four-game series tomorrow at 12:15 p.m. at McCoy Stadium. G-Braves RHP Ryne Reynoso (0-4, 5.52 ERA) is scheduled to face LHP Kris Johnson (1-2, 6.95 ERA) of the Red Sox.
