Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE (Dec. 7, 2007) -- Tossing a shutout for the final 29 minutes and 25 seconds of the game, the Milwaukee Wave won their fourth in a row Saturday night, 14-8 over the defending champion Philadelphia KiXX at U.S. Cellular Arena.
Marcio Leite scored the game-winning goal with 13:09 remaining, then assisted on a Deco's clinching goal with just 2:32 left. Troy Dusosky capped off the scoring against the KiXX's sixth attacker. Leite also had a third-quarter assist and finished with four points.
The Wave (5-2) were in a battle for the first three periods. A 6-all halftime score became an 8-6 Philadelphia lead just 35 seconds into the third quarter, when Jon Barry Nusum scored on an assist from Don D'Ambra during a power play. Marcelo Fontana equalized less than 2 minutes later, potting a rebound on Leite's shot.
Leite's game-winner was the result of a defensive play, stepping in and swiping a pass out of Philadelphia's back end. He took one touch with his right sole and then rifled a blast past Peter Pappas for his eighth goal of the season. With the assists, Leite has 25 points, near the league leaders.
Greg Howes, who entered the night atop the league scoring table with 25 points, knocked home his league-best fourth restart goal in the first quarter for his only scoring of the night. Fontana matched Leite with a goal and two assists.
Brett Wiesner and Warren Ukah had the other Milwaukee goals.
The Wave play at New Jersey (4-1) at 3 p.m. Sunday, then return home next Friday to take on the Chicago Storm at 7 p.m. Friday. It's Stock Car Night and fans can meet drivers and see cars from Slinger Speedway. Also that night, the drivers will take part in a special halftime event with actor Mark Metcalf.
Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or by calling the Wave office at (414) 224-9283.
