Lilavois returns to playing field

December 7, 2007 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
California Cougars News Release

Stockton, CA - Dec. 7, 2007 - California Cougars head coach Bernie Lilavois will make his return as a player when the Stockton Pumas make their 2007-08 Winter League debut against Bladium Rosal on Saturday night at 9:00PM in Alameda. The Pumas are a member of the Premiere Arena Soccer League (PASL) and are the official development team of the California Cougars.

The Pumas are coached by current Cougar forward, and 12 year Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) veteran, Chris Handsor. Handsor will call the plays even with his current coach on the playing field.

"It's going to be fun," said Lilavois. "I just want to get out there and stretch my legs out a little bit. I play with the boys during practice sometimes and each time it reminds me how much I miss playing this game. I'll be out there as a player first, but I'll be doing what I can to make sure my guys are still learning and playing the game the right way."

Former MISL players like Ato Leone also play in the PASL. Leone is a former Cougar and teammate of Lilavois.

"I'll treat each game like it's a MISL match," added Lilavois. "The goal of the Pumas team is to win first, but it's also there for me to keep my reserve players in shape. You might see a guy in a Pumas uniform one night and then the next he'll be in a Cougars uniform. That's going to be true throughout the PASL and MISL. There are a lot of former MISL guys and guys who were left off MISL rosters playing in the PASL this year. It's going to be an intense league to be in."

Lilavois will also play the first half of the Pumas' home debut on Sunday, December 9 beginning at 4:00PM. Like their parent franchise, the Pumas play all home games at Stockton Arena.

The Cougars host La Raza de Monterrey on Sunday, December 9 at 6:15PM. Tickets to the Cougars match are also good for the Pumas game. Sunday is college night. Students with a valid college ID can purchase tickets for just $4.00. All home games in December are part of Toyota Youth Soccer Nights. All youth soccer players in a soccer jersey are free with a paid adult. The promotion is limited to one youth player per paid adult.

Ticket information is available online at www.californiacougars.net, or by calling (209) 373-1550.
