Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Lancaster Barnstormers got all of their hits at once. Long Island's were spread out.

The former is better.

Lancaster struck for 10 runs on 10 hits in the top of the third inning to rout the Ducks, 13-3, in the opener of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark on Friday evening.

Trailing, 1-0, and hitless entering the third, the Barnstormers went to work quickly against Vin Mazzaro (2-4). Jake Hoover lined a single to left, and Cleuluis Rondon followed with a base hit banged into center. Caleb Gindl was given the green light at 3-0 and slugged his 22nd homer of the season to give Lancaster a 3-1 edge. Blake Allemand doubled. Blake Gailen walked. Alejandro De Aza knocked a single into right center to plate Allemand. Trayvon Robinson walked to fill the bases. The fifth run scored on a single by Kelly Dugan. Daniel Fields' bobble in right gave the Barnstormers a sixth tally. Anderson De La Rosa singled home one more, and Hoover knocked home two with a double. The final run crossed the plate on a single by Gindl.

Meanwhile, Nile Ball (2-2) stared down a tough spot in every inning. Five times, the Lancaster right-hander was in a first-and-second, one-out jam. All five times he got out without a nick, three occasions, and ground ball double play got him out of difficulty.

Long Island did score in the first at Steve Lombardozzi doubled and rode home on a single by L.J. Mazzilli off Allemand's glove.

Sal Giardini doubled and scored on Ty Kelly's foul fly ball to left in the sixth for the second run off Ball, who allowed 12 hits in his seven innings of work while walking two and striking out one.

Lancaster's final three runs came on five walks and a single in the ninth.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 6:35. Dominic DiSabatino (8-3) will look for his eighth straight win. He will be opposed by Ducks pitching coach Darin Downs (1-3). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel at 6:30.

NOTES: Gindl has driven home four or more runs six times on the season...The homer was his 40th extra base hit of the season...Hoover has a six-game hitting streak...Ball has thrown at least six innings in each of his last three starts.
