Lancaster Stormers News Release

Long Island slugged a franchise record seven homers in the opener and got a strong combined pitching effort in the nightcap as the Ducks swept a doubleheader from the Barnstormers, 14-1 and 4-2, Sunday afternoon at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The doubleheader loss extended the Barnstormers losing streak to a franchise record-tying nine as the club fell 5 1/2 games behind the division leading Ducks.

In the opener, seven different Ducks left the ballpark, all to right field. Hector Sanchez started the salvo off Dominic DiSabatino (9-7) to open the second, and Vladimir Frias added a two-run homer later in the inning for a 4-0 lead.

Deibinson Romero contributed the biggest blow of all, a grand slam in the top of the fourth as the Ducks lead was exploded to 10-0.

Daniel Fields and L.J. Mazzilli knocked consecutive homers to start the fifth inning. Ramon Flores and Johnni Turbo repeated the feat in the top of the sixth to establish the Ducks' new mark.

Blake Allemand spoiled the shutout effort of Darin Downs (4-4) with a homer of his own in the bottom of the seventh.

The second game was far more competitive. Long Island opened the scoring in the first. Brent Teller (3-1) walked Vladimir Frias and sent him to second on a wild pitch. Steve Lmobardozzi blooped a single into shallow left giving the Ducks runners at first and third. Lew Ford got the first run home with a slow grounder to third. Teller picked up the second out on a grounder by Mazzilli. Romero reached first base safely when his ground ball eluded the grasp of shortstop Cleuluis Rondon as the second run scored.

Johnni Turbo singled and stole second with one out in the next inning. Lombardozzi singled to right for the 3-0 edge.

Blake Gailen slugged a one-out solo homer in the top of the fourth. Lancaster followed by loading the bases with one out and got a second run home when Rondon grounded into a 5-4 force out on a diving stop by third baseman Jesse Berardi. Again, the Barnstormers loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth on a double by Alejandro de Aza and walk to Gailen and an infield single by Kelly Dugan. Reliever Dylan Peiffer (1-1) escaped when Devon Torrence bounced back to the mound.

Lancaster put itself in position to overtake the Ducks again in the sixth when Rondon doubled into the right field corner with one out. Peiffer got Nick Shumpert on a pop up, pitched around Caleb Gindl and retired Melvin Mercedes on a ground out.

A dropped line drive with a runner at third led to an insurance run for Long Island in the seventh, and Rob Griswold wiped out the side in the bottom of the inning for his fourth save.

The Barnstormers open a four-game series at York on Tuesday night. Lancaster will send Nile Ball (2-4) against lefty Austin Nicely (6-8). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:25.

NOTES: Gailen homered three times in the series...Lancaster's other nine-game losing streak came in the second half of the 2006 championship season...Dugan now has a six-game hitting streak...De Aza doubled in each end of the doubleheader and has nine doubles in 11 games.
