Lake Elsinore Storm News Release
Hard contact is typically the enemy of pitchers everywhere but tonight, it was simply the invisible rectangle that stands between them and a strike. Tonight, Storm pitchers walked 12 batters and hit 4, allowing a stagger 16 free passes and handing them their second consecutive home loss.
Jairo Iriarte was tonight's starter and after a first inning that Covergirl's slogan could perfectly summarize, he lost control in inning two. He allowed the first three batters to reach base, loaded the bases and allowing a groundout to become a then game-tying run. A single, HBP, and a wild pitch would be enough to give the Quakes an early 3-1 lead.
Iriarte would then regain control. Ultimately, going for four innings of work, striking out 4, and allowing just those 3 second-inning runs. He would, however, allow 3 walks himself.
The next 2 pitchers would also walk 3 batters apiece, making it 9 walked batters in 5.2 innings pitched for Storm hurlers. All of this traffic would give the Quakes 10 earned runs before the top of the 6th concluded.
On offense, the Storm would walk often but not enough to make this game competitive. They would combine for 9 hits and 8 walks but would only manage to score 4 runs.
This would be their second consecutive loss. Tomorrow night they will look to avoid a three game losing streak in another home game against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.
