Tri-City Storm News Release

KEARNEY, Neb. - A late comeback attempt wasn't enough as the Tri-City Storm dropped their second preseason game of the year to the Fargo Force by a final score of 3-2 on Wednesday in the Fall Classic West at the Tyson Events Center.

Tri-City got goals from returning forward Ryan McMurphy and newcomer right wing Thomas Aldworth. Goaltender Jacob Johansson suited up in a Storm uniform for the first time and made 20 saves on 23 shots.

McMurphy put Tri-City in the lead early on, scoring just 2:42 into the game on a pass from his linemate Chase McMurphy. Forward Robbie Payne picked up the second assist on the goal.

But Fargo got two power play goals from Troy Degler and Mason Morelli in the latter half of the opening period to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the first.

The Force tacked on another goal in the second and had a 3-1 lead heading to the third period.

Aldworth made it 3-2 with less three minutes remaining, taking a pass from Nick Hutchison and beating Fargo goalie Cameron Johnson with a glove side wrist shot. But Tri-City couldn't get the equalizer in the closing minutes and dropped their preseason record to 0-2-0.

The Storm will be back on the ice on Thursday afternoon to face the Waterloo Black Hawks at 1 p.m. in their final game at the Fall Classic West.

The Storm's regular season opener will take place on Sept. 28 at the Viaero Event Center against their in-state rivals, the Lincoln Stars. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will be treated to a free pregame barbeque, and all fans in attendance can witness a fireworks show at the conclusion of the contest, presented by Viaero Wireless.

Notes: The Storm scratched forwards Joey DiBenedetto, Mathieu Briand, Jack Ford, Kyle Eastman, Jason Cotton and Steven Haydon along with defensemen Thomas Delaney and goaltender Brock Kautz.
