Great Lakes Storm News Release

Birch Run, MI (February 14, 2005) – The Great Lakes Storm won tonight against the Idaho Stampede 122-117 (6.0, 1.0) to move to 23-15 on the season. The Storm were undermanned as only seven players dressed out, however, balanced scoring and key plays down the stretch led to a big victory. Idaho lost their fourth in a row as they dropped to 19-19.

With Jermaine Jackson not in attendance due to illness and Doug Smith out serving a suspension, the Storm needed a few players to step up. Greg Stempin was that player in the first quarter as he scored 10 points while the Storm won the quarter 29-24. It was a close game throughout the second quarter but the Storm finally stretched it out to double figures. The Storm would win the quarter 31-27 as they went into halftime leading 60-51. Jackie Butler led the Storm with 17 of his game-high 25 points in the first half. Idaho chipped away at the lead in the third quarter and tied it at 79 a piece with two minutes to go in the third. The Stampede won the quarter 32-27, but the Storm went into the final quarter leading 87-83. The Storm led the entire fourth quarter but could not put the game away. A three-pointer by Donald Williams made things interesting as it cut the lead to three with ten seconds left. However, Idaho was unable to foul as Ezra Williams found Greg Stempin open for a wide open dunk to ice the game. Four Storm players scored 20+ points in the game along with 18 points from Greg Stempin.

The Storm's next game is on Wednesday, February 16th on the road against the Michigan Mayhem. Tip-off is set for 7:05 at the L.C. Walker Arena.

Game Highlights:

STORM: Jackie Butler 25 points, 6 rebounds

Ezra Williams 21 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists

STAMPEDE: Sam Clancy 24 points, 8 rebounds
