Birch Run, MI (March 23, 2005) â Great Lakes Storm All-Star guard and All-League Second Team member Mark Jones has signed a 10-day contract with the NBA's Orlando Magic, it was announced today by the Continental Basketball Association League Office and Magic General Manager John Weisbrod. The signing marks the 14th CBA-to-NBA call-up of the 2004-05 season.
Jones finished the season ranked 4th in the league in scoring after posting 20.8 points per game. He also averaged 5.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.2 steals per game in 41 regular season games played (40 started) for the Storm, while shooting 47.3 percent (311 of 657) from the floor, 80.2 percent (203 of 253) from the free-throw line, and 31.8 percent (27 of 85) from behind the three-point line.
In three games played during the Eastern Conference Finals CBA playoff series, the 6-foot-6, 215-pound guard posted 29.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest, while shooting 58.3 percent (7 of 12) from behind the three-point line. In Game One of the series, Jones notched 40 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one blocked shot.
The Central Florida alum ('98) was voted to the Eastern Conference All-Star Team where he posted 15 points and eight rebounds in the 21st CBA All-Star Classic on January 19. He also received CBA All-League Second Team honors on March 22 for his play during the season.
