Rockford Lightning News Release
Birch Run, MI- After Tuesday night, the Rockford Lightning are happy about the rule stating that any player fouled in the act of shooting a three-pointer gets three free throw attempts. That's exactly what happened for the Lightning, as Brian Lubeck hit three attempts at the charity stripe with 0.8 seconds left to give Rockford a 105-104 victory, and a trip to the 2004-05 CBA finals.
Rockford trailed 104-102 with eight seconds to go in the game, but the Lightning drove down the floor and Lubeck shot a three-pointer while being fouled by James Head. The former Storm player hit all of his free throws to take the lead, and Joe Dabbert's shot at the buzzer hit the back of the rim and fell away, sealing the victory for the Lightning. Jermaine Walker shot 12-of-26 from the floor, and scored 16 of his game-high 26 points in the fourth quarter. The three free throws by Lubeck were just three of his 18 points, and Jermaine Tate had a double double, leading the way with 11 rebounds to go along with his 13 points in the contest. Marshall Phillips also had 13 points for the Lightning, and Cordell Henry led the assist category with four on the night. James Head led the scoring for Great Lakes, as he had 23 points in the Storm loss.
The Lightning will either host the Dakota Wizards or Sioux Falls Skyforce in the 2004-05 CBA Finals. Dakota and Sioux Falls will be playing a fifth game on Thursday night to determine who Rockford's finals opponent will be. Regardless of who the Lightning play, they will be hosting Game 3 on Thursday, March 31 and Game 4 on Saturday, April 2. Both of the Finals games in Rockford will be 7:05 p.m. starts. Tickets go on sale at the MetroCentre box office at 10 a.m. today, so be a part of the 2004-05 CBA Finals. Call the box office at 815-968-5222 to order your tickets.
