Tri-City Storm News Release
WATERLOO, IA. - The Tri-City Storm is set to battle the Waterloo Black Hawks this afternoon at Young Arena for the team's third game of the weekend following last night's 4-1 road loss. Today's game will be the Storm's 56th of the regular season, and the final game played outside of Nebraska. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:05pm CT.
Tri-City (26-20-4-5) has posted a 4-5-0-1 record over the past ten games following last night's three-goal road loss to Waterloo. Shaun McEwen scored the Storm's only goal during the opening period of the game. The goal was his second of the season, and was assisted by Trevor Connelly. Connelly's assist was his fortieth of the 2023-2024 regular season. He became only the tenth player in Tri-City's history to record forty or more assists in a single season. The Storm dropped to 4-8-1-0 in games played at Young Arena over the past five seasons in last night's loss. Tri-City fell to 2-9-1-1 when trailing after the 1st period, and 3-18-1-2 when trailing after the 2nd period this season. The Storm was outshot 34-24 during last night's matchup, and enters today's game with a record of 9-7-3-2 when being outshot this season. Tri-City dropped to 8-8-0-0 in three-goal games this season. The Storm can clinch a victory in the four-game series against the Black Hawks with a point in today's game after posting a two-game sweep over Waterloo at the Viaero Center on November 10th, and November 11th, 2023. Tri-City will return to action next weekend to complete its current five-game road trip with back-to-back games against in-state rivals Lincoln and Omaha. The Storm will travel to Liberty First Credit Union Arena for a 7:05pm CT game against the Lancers on Friday, before completing the road trip on Saturday with a 6:05pm CT game against Lincoln.
Waterloo (32-21-0-1) is one point away from clinching a spot in the 2024 edition of the Clark Cup Playoffs following last night's three-goal home win over Tri-City. Gavyn Thoreson (2), Gavin Lindberg, and John Mustard each scored for the Black Hawks in the 4-1 victory. Waterloo improved to 15-11-0-0 in head-to-head games played against Tri-City in the past five seasons, including a 9-4-0-0 record against the Storm at Young Arena. The Black Hawks currently lead the Storm by four points for 3rd place in the USHL's Western Conference standings, and enter today's game on a two-game winning streak. Waterloo will return to action next weekend with back-to-back road games against the Fargo Force at Scheels Arena.
