Storm Renew Broadcast Deal

KEARNEY - The Tri-City Storm has renewed its contract with Platte River Radio to broadcast the hockey team's games this season on "The Breeze" KLIQ 94.5 FM.
Terms of the agreement have the Storm buying air time to carry the broadcasts for the fourth consecutive season. Platte River Radio first started carrying Storm games in 2007.
"Anyone who knows the current Tri-City Storm front office personnel will realize that they make it easy to be an enthusiastic partner," said Station Manager Craig Eckert.
"Platte River Radio's job is to get Storm fans the games as easily as possible. To that end, we think moving the vast majority of the games to a single station will make it easier for the fans to find."
Jared Shafran is the play-by-play voice of the Storm and will broadcast all 64 of the team's games. A New York native and graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, Shafran is in his first season calling games for the Storm.
"I am very excited to work with Platte River Radio group this season. KLIQ will give our team great exposure in the community and provide a platform that is easily accessible," Shafran said. "I'm looking forward to working with Craig and his staff to get our great fans the coverage they need."
The first broadcast is Sept. 28 when the Storm open its regular season at Dubuque.
KLIQ's 100,000-watt signal can be heard across central Nebraska in a 100-mile radius from the Tri-Cities. In addition to the radio, all games will be streamed online at www.stormhockey.com with a free audio link to the broadcast.
A Smartphone application also is being developed for The Breeze, giving fans mobile access to the Storm Internet stream, Eckert said. Platte River Radio also owns ESPN station's KXPN 1460 AM and 1550 AM in the Tri-Cities, as well as 1230 AM and KKPR "Classic Hits" 98.9 FM.
