The Saginaw Spirit held the CHL's fifth best team close for two and a half periods Friday night before falling in Guelph 5-2. The Storm struck first before Saginaw equalized on a Jesse Gimblett goal half wya through the first period. Guelph scored twice early in the second before an Adam Sturgeon slapshot drew the Spirit to within one goal late in the second. Sturgeon's goal chased Guelph starting goalie Adam Dennis from net, but Guelph would score twice in the third to finish scoring and end the game at 5-2.
Spirit goaltender Mike Brown stopped 47 shots on goal in the effort. The loss takes the Spirit to 12-28-2-3 on the season. Saginaw returns to ice Saturday in Erie, the third of four road games in a row. Saginaw plays in Sarnia next Friday night, before Sarnia returns the favor in Saginaw on Saturday, January 24th for Staples Mousepad night at the Saginaw County Event Center.
