
Storm One Win Away From Playoffs, Beat Bucs 1-0

KEARNEY, Neb. - With 59 games in the record books this season, the Tri-City Storm (28-25-6, 62 pts) are one win away from the Clark Cup Playoffs, as they beat the Des Moines Buccaneers (20-33-6, 36 pts) on Friday night, 1-0. Goaltender Carsen Chubak earned his third shutout of the season, making 30 saves in the win.
The Storm scored the lone goal of the game at the 9:25 mark in the first period. Radoslav Illo deflected a Luke McManus point shot from the left-point that snuck past Buccaneer goalie Charles Williams for Illo's 23rd goal of the season and his fifth game-winning goal.
After the goal in the first period, neither teams goalie would allow another goal, as Williams made 31-consecutive saves after allowing the goal in the first period.
Tri-City outshot Des Moines in the third period 18-10 and was buzzing around the Buccaneer net with numerous third period scoring chances trying to add a few insurance goals late in the game.
Chubak (20-19-6) made 30 saves, including 10 saves in each period for the Storm in the win. Williams (8-13-2) made a 39 saves on 40 shots in the loss for Des Moines.
Tri-City on the power play was 0-for-8, while Des Moines was 0-for-3 with the man-advantage.
The Storm host the Sioux Falls Stampede on Saturday night at the Viaero Event Center. If the Storm beat Sioux Falls, they are in the playoffs regardless of Sioux City's result against Lincoln on Saturday night.
Notes: Jaden Schwartz lead in the USHL scoring race has been cut down to one point over Omaha's Matt White, who scored two goals on Friday night... The Storm home record is 15-10-4 and are 13-6-6 in one goal games this season
