UIF Sioux Falls Storm

Storm Eye another Record

June 19, 2007 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF)
Sioux Falls Storm News Release

The Sioux Falls (SD) Storm of the United Indoor Football Association (UIF) has another professional sports record in its sight. The Storm won their 31st consecutive game on Saturday, with a 56-20 victory over the Ohio Valley Greyhounds. The 31 victories in a row is already a professional football record, but now the team has a chance to set a new consecutive victories record for all of American professional sports.

The Storm is on the verge of breaking the prestigious record currently held by the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers won an incredible 33 consecutive games during the 1971-72 NBA season. The Lakers streak started on November 5, 1971 with a 110-106 victory over the Baltimore Bullets and continued until January 9, 1972 when the streak met its end with a 120-104 loss at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks. Milwaukee may have stopped the streak, but they lost ownership of their NBA record. The Lakers shattered the Milwaukee Bucks' previous NBA record of 20 consecutive wins, which they set during the 1970-71 season.

The Storm is on the road this week in Lexington, KY where they will take on the Horsemen on Saturday. Sioux Falls defeated Lexington for win #2 in Lexington on August 6, 2005 and win #20 in Sioux Falls on July 29, 2006. Win #20 was also United Bowl II as Sioux Falls won the UIF Championship 72-64. After the game in Lexington, Sioux Falls returns home to battle the Colorado Ice on June 30. A victory over both the Horsemen and the Ice would tie the Lakers record.

Sioux Falls clinched the #1 seed in the Western Conference last week. The Storm will host a first round playoff game on July 21. Should the Storm win, they will host the Western Conference Championship game on Sunday, July 29 at 3pm.

The United Indoor Football Association is the premier indoor football league of North America. The UIF consists of 11 teams divided into a Western Conference and Eastern Conference. The season runs from the end of March to United Bowl III which will take place the first weekend of August.
