Omaha, NE - Week thirteen is in the books. Three of the five games were decided by less than a field goal. Three teams defended their home turf while two went into hostile environments and both came out victorious.
OMAHA 30, SIOUX CITY 27
At Omaha, NE
The Omaha Beef edged the Sioux City Bandits, 30-27, Saturday at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. Leading the way for the Beef were LB Digger Anderson and QB James McNear. Anderson led Omaha's defense with 10.5 tackles and a pass break up. McNear completed seven of 14 passes for 71 yards while also rushing for 35 yards and three touchdowns. Leading the way for the Bandits were DL Marvin Campbell and WR Johnnie Ostermeyer. Campbell led Sioux City's defense with 6.5 tackles (three TFL) as Ostermeyer paced the offense by catching seven passes for 76 yards and three touchdowns. This weekend, the Beef have a bye before taking on Bloomington on June 30th at home while the Bandits return to the Tyson Events Center to face the Evansville BlueCats Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Central.
ROCK RIVER 40, BLOOMINGTON 39
At Bloomington, IL
In the third installment of The Battle of Illinois, the Rock River Raptors squeaked past the Bloomington Extreme 40-39 Saturday at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. . Rock River was led by QB Ben Sankey and LB Maurice Simpkins. Sankey completed 18 of 26 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns while Simpkins made six tackles (.5 TFL), intercepted an errant Dusty Burk pass and even blocked a Peter Christofilakos field goal. Bloomington was led by DL Quince Holman and WR Glenn Johnson. Holman made 5.5 tackles (1.5 TFL) and a sack, forced a fumble and also broke up a pass. This weekend, the Raptors face the Ohio Valley Greyhounds at MetroCentre while the Extreme host the Colorado Ice at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Both games start Saturday at 7:05 Central.
LEXINGTON 42, EVANSVILLE 41
At Evansville, IN
The Lexington Horsemen clipped the Evansville BlueCats in the game's final minute to win 42-41 Saturday at Roberts Stadium. Lexington was led by RB Rayshawn Askew and their defense. Askew had 147 all-purpose yards (80-rush, 53-receive, 14-kickoff return) and four touchdowns (three-rushing, one-receiving). The Horsemen defense sacked Brent Dearmon twice, intercepted him once (by William Mulder), forced a fumble, recovered two more, broke up a pass and blocked a kick. For the BlueCats, they were led by RB Michael Cosey and DE Deion Holts. Cosey had three touchdowns (one-rushing and two-receiving) to pace the offense. Defensively, Holts had 5.5 tackles (two TFL), two sacks of Kewan Dewberry and even blocked a kick. This weekend, the Horsemen will face the Sioux Falls Storm in a United Bowl II re-match at Rupp Arena while the BlueCats face the Sioux City Bandits at the Tyson Events Center. Both games are Saturday, with Lexington's starting at 7:30 Eastern and Evansville's starting at 7:05 Central.
SIOUX FALLS 57, OHIO VALLEY 20
At Sioux Falls, SD
The Sioux Falls Storm defeated the Ohio Valley Greyhounds 57-20 Saturday at the Sioux Falls Arena. The Storm, who won their 31st in-a-row, were led by QB Terrance Bryant and their defense. Bryant completed 17 of 24 passes for 166 yards and six touchdowns (dispersed to four different receivers) to lead the offense. Defensively, the Storm sacked Oscar Davenport three times, intercepted him also three times, forced and recovered two fumbles, broke up four passes and blocked a kick. The Greyhounds were led by WR Willie Austin and DB K.C. Cavette. Austin caught 12 passes for 108 yards and three touchdowns, all from Oscar Davenport. Cavette made five solo tackles, and assisted on two more, for a total of six. This weekend, the Storm head to legendary Rupp Arena for a United Bowl II re-match against the Lexington Horsemen while the Greyhounds complete a three-game road trip in Rockford, IL against the Rock River Raptors at MetroCentre. Sioux Falls' game starts at 7:30 p.m. Eastern while Ohio Valley's begins at 7:05 p.m. Central.
BILLINGS 56, COLORADO 38
At Billings, MT
The Billings Outlaws beat the Colorado Ice 56-38 Sunday at MetraPark Arena. The Outlaws were led by QB Chris Dixon and DE Eugene Phillips. Dixon completed 19 of 24 passes for 164 yards and seven touchdowns. The game marked the third time this season that Dixon had a hand in seven touchdowns in a game. Phillips made seven tackles (three TFL) and also had a sack. The Ice were led by WR Mike Jones and LB Ryan Palmer. Jones made 11 catches for 87 yards while Palmer had seven tackles, forced a fumble, and also broke up a pass. This weekend, the Outlaws complete a three-game homestand by hosting the RiverCity Rage as the Ice make their farthest trip of the season to Bloomington, IL to face the Extreme. Billings and RiverCity face off at 7 p.m. Mountain while Colorado and Bloomington tangle at 7:05 p.m. Central.
