Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm (11-10-6, 28 pts) ended the 2009 calendar year with a loss to the Sioux Falls Stampede (15-4-7, 37 pts) on New Year's Eve.
The Storm scored the opening goal at the 15:15 mark into the first period, as right winger Kenny Brooks received a centering-pass from Maxwell Tardy and scored his fourth of the season.
Sioux Falls tied the game back up at 1-1, as Josh Holmstrom scored his first of two goals in the game at the 18:02 mark in the first period.
In the second period, the Stampede scored on the power play 4:13 into the period on Matt Lindblad's ninth goal of the season.
Jaden Schwartz scored to extend his point streak to eight games at the 14:56 mark into the second period that tied the game at 2-2. Anthony DeCenzo and Tucker Brockett received the assists on Schwartz's 15th of the season.
However, Sioux Falls would score the game-winning goal 3-minutes later, as Matt Farris snapped the puck into the Storm net.
The Stampede would add another goal in the third period on Holmstrom's second of the night.
Chubak (8-7-6) made 26 saves on 30 shots in the loss for the Storm. Sioux Falls' Clay Witt (10-2-3) made 26 saves on 28 shots for the win.
Tri-City on the power play was 0-1, while Sioux Falls was 1-4 with the man-advantage.
The Storm will be on the road New Year's Day in Des Moines and in Sioux City on Saturday night.
Notes: Schwartz has 40 points this season and still is third in the league in points... the Storm loss in regulation was just the second loss this season on home ice with a record of 7-2-4 at the Viaero Event Center... Kenny Brooks had six points in the month of December, which was one more than the first two months of the season... The Storm only won 15 games in the 2009 calendar year, however 11 of them were in this current 2009-10 season
