Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Lake Elsinore took advantage of nine walks issued by Quakes' pitching on Saturday night, in picking up a 6-4 win over Rancho Cucamonga at The Epicenter.
Storm first baseman Michael Wing drove in three runs, while starter Matt Branham (4-1) limited a red-hot Quakes' offense to just two runs on six hits over five innings.
Quakes' starter JonMichael Redding (6-5) endured his roughest outing of the year, as he allowed five runs on four hits with four walks and two hit batters over just 2 2/3 innings.
Wing's go-ahead two-run single highlighted a four-run third inning, as the Storm snapped a 1-1 tie and took a 3-1 advantage.
Trailing 5-1 in the fifth, Leon Landry singled and eventually scored on a Bobby Coyle triple, making it 5-2.
The Storm got that run back in the sixth though, as Quakes' reliever Eammon Portice walked three hitters and eventually gave up an RBI infield hit to Justin Miller, making it 6-2.
Landry tripled to open the seventh and later scored on a Coyle RBI groundout, pulling Rancho to within three at 6-3.
The Quakes made a run at saves-leader Kevin Quackenbush in the ninth, putting two on to start the inning and eventually scoring a run when Joc Pederson blooped one into shallow right field, bringing in Scott Wingto to make it 6-4. With two on and one out, Quackenbush got Coyle to ground out and then forced Angelo Songco to pop out, ending the game while recording his league-high 21st save.
Landry finished the game with three hits and three runs scored, while Coyle finished the game with two hits and three RBIs.
Eadington worked around a couple of walks in the ninth to notch his 18th save of the year.
With their two-game win streak snapped, the Quakes (14-22, 51-55) will look to win the rubber game of the three-game set on Sunday. Dodger lefty Ted Lilly is scheduled to throw for Rancho on Sunday, while the Storm will send Matt Andriese (8-5) to the bump.
Sunday is another Valencia Commons Dodgers Fun in the Sun-Day, as former Dodger Jay Johnstone will be on hand to sign autographs and take pictures on Sunday afternoon. Game time is 5:05pm and gates open at 4:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
