Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Quakes got some major league help on Sunday, as Ted Lilly and Rubby De La Rosa combined for five scoreless frames, helping Rancho Cucamonga take two of three from Lake Elsinore with an 8-1 win over the Storm at The Epicenter.
Lilly, making his first appearance since May 23rd, pitched two scoreless innings, while De La Rosa, seeing his first action since July of 2011, allowed just two infield singles over three innings of shut-out baseball.
The Quakes took advantage of some sloppy Lake Elsinore play, picking up a pair of unearned runs in the first to take an early 2-0 lead.
Rancho capitalized on another Storm error in the fourth, with Scott Wingo's two-run double highlighting a three-run inning for a 5-0 lead.
In the fifth, Austin Gallagher doubled home Bobby Coyle for a 6-0 lead over Storm starter Matt Andriese (8-6).
Angelo Songco and Gallagher had back-to-back RBI hits in the seventh, rounding out the Quakes' scoring at 8-0 against Storm reliever Chris Franklin.
De La Rosa (1-0), in his first of what could be multiple appearances with the Quakes, earned the win in his first game since having Tommy John surgery last season. He allowed one walk and fanned three and hit 97 on the Epicenter radar gun.
Brandon Martinez worked the final four frames to notch his first save, allowing just one run, as Justin Miller doubled home Michael Wing in the eighth, putting the Storm on the board at 8-1.
The Quakes (15-22, 52-55) take Monday off before returning to The Epicenter on Tuesday to open a three-game set against Inland Empire. Andres Santiago (5-3) takes on Andres Smith (2-0) in the series-opener on Tuesday at 7:05pm.
Tuesday is a Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday, as fans are encouraged to bring ten CRV-eligible bottles and cans to The Epicenter to receive a free Club Seat Ticket. Gates open at 6:05pm on Tuesday night and game time is 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
