Guelph Storm News Release

Coming off a victory against the league leading Mississauga St. Michael's Majors on Sunday afternoon, the Storm fell to the Rangers in Kitchener on Tuesday night. Taylor Beck tied it up with under 2 minutes remaining, but the Storm couldn't stop Jason Akeson's individual effort less than a minute later as he put the Rangers up by one and helped lift his team over the Storm.

Looking to refocus and rebound from Tuesday's loss, the Storm faces the London Knights on Thursday night in London before hosting a couple at the Sleeman Centre this weekend. Friday night the Sarnia Sting come to town before the Erie Otters make their second visit to Guelph on Sunday.

With a record of 11-13-3-1 the Storm currently sit fifth in the Midwest Division, three points behind the London Knights who have 29 points. The Sting are currently in fourth in the West Division with 30 points and a 13-12-3-1 record. Hot as of late, the Otters have won seven of their last ten and five in a row. The are third in the Midwest division with 30 points.

AMJ Player of the Week

The Guelph Storm announced today that for the second week in a row, forward Michael Latta is the AMJ Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 5th.

Playing in two games this weekend, the St. Clements native recorded four points, three goals and one assist. Held off the scoresheet on Friday night against the Oshawa Generals, Latta bounced back with a hat trick and a helper on Sunday afternoon in the Storm's 6-5 victory over the league best Mississauga St. Michaels Majors. Instrumental in handing the Majors just their fourth loss this year, Latta was named the game's first star. His hat trick on Sunday is the second of the season and the fifth of his career.

His four points in two games on the weekend keeps him atop the Storm scoring race with 35 points. The 19 year old leads his team in goals (18) and is tied with Richard Panik and Peter Holland for the lead in power play goals with five. Producing at over a point per game pace, Latta has picked up at least one point in eight of his last 10 games played.

Next up, the Storm returns to action on Tuesday, December 7th as they head to Kitchener to try and avenge their most recent 7-1 loss to the Rangers. Two days later they are back on the road, traveling to London on Thursday night to take on the Knights at the John Labatt Centre. Friday and Sunday the Storm returns home to host the Sarnia Sting on Friday and the Erie Otters on Sunday afternoon.
