Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - Thanks to a recent suggestion by Omaha's favorite levy-friendly leader, the Omaha Storm Chasers are taking the plunge on a Thursday, April 21 promotion to benefit the March of Dimes. All fans who attend that night's game will receive a dime, matching the amount of the national toilet paper tax idea floated this week by Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle.
"Part of the fun of Minor League Baseball is being tongue-in-cheek with your promotional calendar," said team Vice President and General Manager Martie Cordaro. "We're embracing a truly unique opportunity to help a worthy cause, while poking a little fun at the comments made by the mayor earlier this week."
Fans will be able to keep their dime or drop it in the toilet donation station just inside the front gate. All money collected - including cash donations in other denominations - will be donated to the Nebraska Chapter of the March of Dimes, a non-profit organization whose dual mission is to help moms have full-term pregnancies and to research the problems that threaten the health of babies.
The Storm Chasers' two-ply approach to fun and charity could be a big hit during the opening homestand at Werner Park. The April 21 date is also the season's first Thirsty Thursday, featuring $1 Pepsi products and $1 beer specials.
TP Tax Rebate Night is the first of many theme nights to be put on during the course of the 2011 season. Glee Night, Sarah Palin Night and Welcome to the Big Ten Night will join returning champions Star Wars Night and Jersey Shore Night, which won an ESPN The Magazine Veeckie Award in 2010. In addition, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts will have their own nights with postgame campouts, while Bark in the Park Night will give our favorite canine companions a chance to check out Werner Park's new amenities.
Other promotions of note include $1 Hot Dog Mondays presented by Rotella's, Kids Eat Free Wednesdays, Friday Fireworks presented by American Family Insurance and half-price hamburgers during day games, presented by Omaha Steaks. Fans will also get to see traveling acts such as Inflatamaniacs (April 20 & May 9), BirdZerk! (June 11), ZOOperstars! (July 16) and the Bucket Boys (July 23). A full list of promotions can be found at www.omahastormchasers.com.
