New Mexico Thunderbirds News Release


ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., July 19, 2006 - The 2005-06 NBA Development League Champion Albuquerque Thunderbirds will be conducting auditions for the 2006-07 Storm Chasers Dance Team this Saturday and Sunday July 22-23 at Defined Fitness on 4930 McLeod NE. Registration and sign-in will go from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, immediately followed by auditions. Sunday's session will consist of call-backs and will include one-on-one interviews and a final choreographed routine.

To pre-register, log on to abqtbirds.com or visit the Albuquerque Thunderbirds Office (111 Lomas Blvd. NW, Suite 240), Defined Fitness Locations, or Duke City Stars Dance Studio. There is a pre-registration fee of $10, or $15 on the day of Auditions. Potential candidates must be at least 18-years-old and be a high school graduate. In addition to a physical and personal appearance evaluation, candidates will be judged on their ability to grasp choreographed dance routines, maintain a positive attitude and communicate effectively.

Applications must be returned to the Thunderbirds office prior to Friday, July 21 to qualify for the non-refundable $10 pre-registration fee. All applications after July 21 will be subject to the $15 registration fee, which is also non-refundable.

The Storm Chasers will be directed by Leslie Chant for a second season. Chant has 24 years of dance experience at different levels, including performing on the NBA's Denver Nuggets dance team (Nuggets Dancers).

The Storm Chasers will perform high-energy, fast-paced routines, provide in-house game entertainment, as well as act as ambassadors in and around the community. The Storm Chasers will continue to make appearances throughout the year for private, civic and charitable events on behalf of the Thunderbirds.

The D-League continues to develop talent from across all disciplines for the NBA's 30 teams and the entire NBA umbrella. This season, 19 NBA teams assigned 29 players to D-League affiliates. There were also 18 GATORADE Call-Ups from the D-League to the NBA. Additionally, every referee hired by the NBA since 2002 has worked in the D-League, while coaches, athletic trainers and front office executives are also being developed.

The NBA D-League is composed of the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Anaheim Arsenal (Calif.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Bakersfield Jam (Calif.), Colorado 14ers (Broomfield), Dakota Wizards (Bismarck, N.D.), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Idaho Stampede (Boise), Los Angeles, Sioux Falls Skyforce (S.D.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.).
