Storm Acquire Multiple Draft Picks in Separate Transactions

Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm has acquired multiple draft picks from the Lincoln Stars in two separate transactions. Tri-City has received an 8th Round pick in the 2021 USHL Phase II Draft and a conditional draft pick from the Lincoln Stars in exchange for forward Nick Nardecchia. Tri-City has also received a 1st Round pick in the 2021 USHL Phase II Draft, a 2nd Round pick in the 2022 USHL Phase II Draft, a 3rd Round pick in the 2022 USHL Phase I Draft, and a 4th Round pick in the 2021 USHL Phase I Draft in exchange for an 8th Round pick in the 2022 USHL Phase II Draft, a 10th Round pick in the 2022 USHL Phase I draft, a 10th Round pick in the 2021 USHL Phase II draft, and forward Nikolai Mayorov. In total, the two transactions included two players and nine draft picks.

Nick Nardecchia, 19, of Macomb, Michigan appeared in two games with Tri-City during the 2019-2020 season as a replacement player. He also skated in two games with the Lincoln Stars during the 2019-2020 season as a replacement player as both the Storm and Stars had players skating in the 2019 World Junior A Challenge in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Nardecchia scored his first career USHL goal in Lincoln's 5-3 road win over the Waterloo Black Hawks on December 7th, 2019. He appeared in forty-four games with the Topeka Pilots (NAHL), scoring ten goals and recording thirteen assists in the 2019-2020 season. Tri-City selected Nardecchia 114th overall in the 8th Round of the 2020 USHL Phase II Draft. Nardecchia appeared in four games with the Storm during the preseason and scored in the team's 9-0 home defeat of the Lincoln Stars on October 31st. Nardecchia did not appear in any of the Storm's 2020-2021 regular season games as he was serving a three game suspension stemming from a fight in the final two minutes of the October 31st preseason game.

Nikolai Mayorov, 20, of Tyumen, Russia, was the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders leading scorer during the 2019-2020 season, netting twenty-four goals, and recording thirteen assists in thirty-nine games played. He was acquired by the Storm on September 21st, 2020 in the 2020 USHL Dispersal Draft. Prior to his debut in the USHL last season, Mayorov skated for Altay Ust-Kamenogorsk and Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk U20 in Kazakhstan during the 2018-2019 season. With the Storm, Mayorov appeared in five games with the Storm during the 2020-2021 preseason. He scored two goals and registered three assists. He also played in two of Tri-City's first three games of the 2020-2021 regular season. Mayorov recorded an assist in the Storm's 5-1 road win over the Sioux City Musketeers in the opening game of the regular season. He was named the USHL's Forward of the Week on February 11th, 2020 following a two goal, four assist, performance in the RoughRiders two games against the Des Moines Buccaneers.

We thought he was impactful in the games he played, but unfortunately, we had to make tough roster decisions but were very happy to keep him in the league. Nikolai is a kid who we really enjoyed working with since acquiring him in the Dispersal Draft. He is certainly a high-end talent and someone who will have success in the league. We had to make a difficult decision because of the limitations of how many 20 year old players we can have on our roster, and we felt this was in the best interest for the team long term, especially considering the assets we received in return."
