
Stoppelman Named St. Louis Minor League Pitcher of the Month

Springfield, MO - The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that former Springfield Cardinals LHP Lee Stoppelman has been named the St. Louis Minor League Pitcher of the Month for August. Additionally, former Cardinals INF Greg Garcia won the St. Louis Minor League Player of the Month award.
Stoppelman, 23, spent the majority of the season in Springfield, posting a 1-0 record with a 1.35 ERA and four saves through 11 outings in August, before being promoted to the Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A) on August 28. The Pleasant Hill, Missouri native made three appearances with the Redbirds, going 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA.
Overall this season, Stoppelman went 3-1 with a 1.35 ERA and six saves through 37 outings with Springfield. In his first full professional season out of the University of Central Missouri, Stoppelman started the campaign in High-A with the Palm Beach Cardinals, pitching across three levels this year. He combined to go 6-3 with a 1.50 ERA through 55 outings. In 66.0 total innings, Stoppelman racked up 78 strikeouts.
Garcia, 24, hit .368 (32-for-87) with two home runs and 12 RBIs through 28 games with Memphis in August. Spending the entire season with the Redbirds, the El Cajon, California native compiled a .271 average with three homers and 35 RBIs in 116 contests. A 7th round pick in 2010 out of the University of Hawaii at Manao, Garcia played in 124 games in Springfield a season ago, helping the Cardinals capture their first Texas League Championship in 2012.
