Calgary, AB . - Brandon Wheat Kings Captain Mark Stone will be hoping to cap off a terrific 2011-12 season Wednesday afternoon when the Western Hockey League Awards Luncheon is held in Calgary.

A 19-year old Winnipeg product, Stone is the Eastern Conference Finalist for WHL's Most Sportsmanlike Player.

The Eastern Conference First All Star Team member, who finished second in WHL scoring this past season with 41 goals and 123 points in 66 games, will be up against defenceman Ryan Murray of the Everett Silvertips.

Stone, who led Team Canada to a bronze medal at this year's World Junior Hockey Championships in Alberta, made his Stanley Cup playoff debut last week as he played in game five of the National Hockey League's opening round playoff series between the Ottawa Senators and New York Rangers.

Among the other nominees up for awards on Wednesday will be Winnipeg's Brendan Shinnimin of the Tri-City Americans and Killarney product Reid Gow of the Spokane Chiefs.

Shinnimin, who led the WHL in scoring this season is up against Medicine Hat's Emerson Etem for Player of the Year while Gow is a finlist for Scholastic Player of the Year. The former Southwest AAA Cougar is up against Jimmy Bubnick of the Calgary Hitmen.

Wednesday's Awards Luncheon comes one day before the league's annual Bantam Draft. The Wheat Kings will have the 12th overall selection in Thursday's opening round. For up to the second Wheat King draft selections follow the team on Twitter and Facebook .
