Winterhawks' Mac Carruth Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Mac Carruth of the Portland Winterhawks is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the playoff week ending April 29 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .975.
Carruth stopped a total of 77 shots in the final two games of the WHL's Western Conference Finals backstopping the WInterhawks to a four-game series win over the Tri-City Americans. He was named first star of both contests including Wednesday night in Game 3 where he made 38 saves in the 3-1 victory, and in Game 4 on Thursday where he stopped 39 shots in the 4-1 win over the Americans. The Winterhawks return to the WHL Championship Series for the second straight year and will play the Edmonton Oil Kings for the Ed Chynoweth Cup beginning Thursday night.
Carruth, a 20-year-old from Shorewood, MN, is playing in his third WHL season. Selected in the seventh round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, Carruth has posted a 12-3-0-0 record so far in the 2012 playoffs with two shutout victories and a goals-against-average of 2.86 and save percentage of .920.
Also considered for the award this week was Mark Visentin who backstopped the Niagara IceDogs to three wins and a berth in the OHL Championship Series where they will face the London Knights for the Robertson Cup after defeating the Ottawa 67's in five-games with Visentin posting a goals-against-average of 2.00 and save percentage of .934 in the final three contests. In the QMJHL, Christopher Gibson was strong for the Chicoutimi Sagueneens despite a five-game series loss to the Saint John Sea Dogs. Last week he earned one win with two overtime losses with a goals-against-average of 3.22 and save percentage of .908 facing a total of 120 shots.
