St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Charlotte Stone Crabs took advantage of two errors and scored four unearned runs to defeat the St. Lucie Mets 8-5 on Thursday at First Data Field.
New York Mets All Star outfielder Michael Conforto (hand) made a rehab start. He played all nine innings in center field and went 3 for 4 with a double, single, walk, RBI and run. He also dropped a ball to start the second inning that eventually led to the Stone Crabs scoring three unearned runs and taking a 5-2 lead.
The Mets battled back and made it 5-3 on a two-out double by Conforto in the second inning.
In the third inning the Mets cut the deficit to 6-4 on a RBI ground out by Tim Tebow. The grounder scored Patrick Mazeika, who previously doubled in the inning.
Brandon Lowe opened up an 8-4 lead for Charlotte when he belted a two-run double off of reliever Briam Campusano in the sixth inning.
Campusano was added the thin Mets bullpen earlier in the day from the GCL. Campusano was impressive, as he pitched the final five innings of the game and only allowed the two runs on Lowe's double.
New York Mets relief pitcher Josh Smoker (shoulder) also mad a rehab appearance. He pitched a scoreless fourth with a strikeout and an infield single.
Mets starter Kevin Canelon took the loss after giving up five runs (one earned) in 1.2 innings.
Tebow went 1 for 4 with a RBI and a run. His two-out double in the eighth inning extended his hitting streak to five games. He has reached base safely in all 10 games with St. Lucie.
The Mets (3-11, 36-46) start a four-game road series at the Jupiter Hammerheads on Friday. First pitch from Roger Dean Stadium is 6:30 p.m.
