October 23, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Ports have announced they will host their 1st annual Halloween Weekend Battle of the Bands. The two-day live music tournament will begin on Halloween, Friday, October 31 at 6:00 PM with a closing performance by Red Hot Chili Peppers cover band, the Righteous and the Wicked beginning at 10:00 PM. The battle will continue on Saturday, November 1 at 12:00 PM with groove rock band Minor Dischord closing out the festivities with a set starting at 10:00 PM.
A total of eighteen bands will compete for a chance to play fifteen dates on the RD5 Records California Tour next summer, as well as a graphic design for a full album layout courtesy of Universal Design. The three finalist bands will receive press reviews of the event, interviews, performance and album reviews courtesy of Metal Storm Magazine.
Each band will play a 20-minute set of their best material to impress both judges and fans alike. The categories each band will be judged on are songwriting, crowd influence/presence, performance presence/style, professionalism, and originality. Three finalists will each receive an opportunity to perform an additional set to determine the champion prior to Minor Dischord's 10:00 PM performance to close out the Battle on Saturday night.
The Battle hopes to highlight the local music scene at one of the best but underutilized live music venues in San Joaquin County, while simultaneously celebrating the spirit of Halloween. Costumes are not required but highly encouraged. Club Plur will be graciously providing their expertise in sound and lighting to further establish the ultimate Battle of the Bands experience.
Tickets will be sold at the main gate for only $10 and day-of re-entry will be allowed. The Comcast Club will be open with a full bar and concessions will be available as well. The Stockton Ports and Bradley's have teamed up to establish a downtown Stockton trolley shuttle on Friday night, October 31 to make frequent trips to and from Banner Island Ballpark and Bradley's, linking up both of Stockton's downtown Halloween extravaganzas! To purchase tickets in advance or for further questions, contact Kyle Dewitt in the Stockton Ports front office at (209) 644-1900.
