Stockton Kings Tip-Off Inaugural Season

November 1, 2018 - NBA G League (G League)
Stockton Kings News Release

On Friday, the Stockton Kings will kick off their inaugural season at the Stockton Arena. Opening Night will include a pre-game welcome from Sacramento Kings Owner and Chairman Vivek Ranadivé and Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs. Sacramento Kings Legends Vlade Divac and Peja Stojakovi? will also make a special appearance to support the night and sign autographs and take pictures with fans from 6 p.m. to 6:40 p.m. The Stockton Kings will tip-off at 7 p.m. against the Oklahoma City Blue, with all fans in attendance receiving a 209 Rally towel. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

"We are excited to tip-off Stockton Kings basketball and make history here in the Central Valley," said Stockton Kings Vice President of Business Operations Dustin Toms. "The support from the community and fans has been overwhelming and we can't wait to bring NBA basketball to Stockton as we celebrate our inaugural season."

"Opening day for Kings basketball in Stockton is more than just a game for our community, it is a sign of civic pride," said Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs. "We are looking forward to a great inaugural season and a partnership that we know will make many memorable moments for years to come."

Pre-game entertainment will include DJ Lady Kate welcoming fans outside of the North doors. Fans will also have the opportunity to take a photo with life size letters "K" "N" "G" "S," standing in as the "I" to complete the word "Kings." Cesar Chavez High School's drum line and the Sacramento Kings breakers will provide entertainment during halftime.

Earlier this month, the team revealed their court, uniforms and Mascot, Dunkson, the long-lost little brother of the Sacramento Kings Mascot, Slamson. Over the summer, Slamson took a DNA test to learn about his ancestry. After weeks of waiting, his ancestry results revealed his family's ethnic history - hailing from Zimbabwe, Gir Forest in India, South Sudan and Sub-Saharan Africa - from a royal bloodline of entertainers. The results also gave Slamson the surprise of a lifetime - the news of a brother located nearby in the city of Stockton. Recruiting Sacramento Kings Emcee and best friend, Scott "Fresh" Freshour, the two scoured the city, posting flyers and asking for help locating his brother. On Wednesday, Slamson found his brother at Chase Chevrolet. To celebrate joining the Stockton Kings, Dunkson spent Halloween evening trick-or-treating with local Stockton youth. Dunkson will be making his NBA debut at Opening Night.

This past weekend, the team hosted a Jr. Kings Clinic in Stockton with Coach Ty Ellis and Stockton Kings players for more than 50 local youth for the first time on the Stockton Kings court.

Tickets for Opening Night are still available for purchase at StocktonKings.com.
