
Stockton Holds on 3-2; Five-Game Unbeaten Streak Ends for Utah

Stockton, California - The Stockton Thunder (23-14-2-5)held on to defeat the Utah Grizzlies (27-17-4-1)3-2 Saturday night in Stockton. The loss ends Utah's season-long five-game unbeaten streak as they settle for the weekend split with the Thunder.
Utah outshot Stockton 13-12 in the scoreless first period as each goaltender stood tall.
Stockton broke the tie in the first as Jody Pederson fired a shot towards the net that went off of a Utah defenseman and in just 1:08 into the second period. Utah was the victim of another unfortunate bounce as Stockton took a 2-0 lead at 10:46 of the middle frame, as the puck somehow went from the corner to the slot and onto the tape of Garet Hunt.
Utah rallied twice in the third period as Tom May made it 2-1 on his 10th goal of the year with 6:32 left. The goal was scored four-on-four with Kevin Deeth picking up the first assist.
Stockton goaltender Bryan Pitton horribly misplaced a puck that would have been ruled an icing with just over three minutes left, but recovered and Stockton came back the other way. Fraser Clair made it 3-1 as Utah goaltender Andrew Engelage protested that he was interfered with on the play.
The Grizzlies still refused to give up as Simon Ferguson fed Kevin Deeth shorthanded from behind the net to make it 3-2 with 2:05 left. Utah outshot Stockton 12-5 in the third as they attempted tocomplete the comeback.
Utah is next in action Thursday in Las Vegas. Face-off is scheduled for 8:05 p.m.
The Grizzlies return home Tuesday, February 15 with Alaska to open a four-game in five-night home stand. Face-off each night is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
