Jackals Overcome by Wranglers, 5-4

Las Vegas, Nev. - The Elmira Jackals (20-19-5-0) fell 5-4 to the Las Vegas Wranglers (29-14-5-0) on Saturday night at Orleans Arena. The Wranglers overcame a two-goal deficit in the third period with three-unanswered tallies for the win.

Blake Gallagher redirected a shot by Sean McMonagle into the net at 2:39 of the first period to give Las Vegas a 1-0 lead.

Elmira responded by scoring the final three goals of the first period. R.J. Anderson finished off a quick passing play involving Andrew Sweetland and Mike Hoffman at 7:27 to tie it, 1-1, Eric Regan snapped a puck in on a two-on-one rush at 11:39 to give the Jackals the lead, 2-1, while Ryan Hillier scored his first goal since Nov. 12 with a wrist shot from the right circle at 16:34 to give Elmira a 3-1 advantage.

In the second period, Jerry Pollastrone found Matt Price in the right circle from behind the net on the power play with Price driving a puck in at 8:05 to bring Las Vegas to within a goal, 3-2.

Justin Donati gave Elmira a power-play tally of its own, wristing a puck stick side past Wranglers goaltender Joe Fallon from the right circle to put the Jackals back up by two at 19:52 of the middle frame.

Las Vegas came out firing to start the third period, scoring two quick goals to tie the game and then winning the contest late. Ryan Huddy sent a puck in from the right circle 42 seconds in to the final frame and Chris Higgins knocked in a loose puck from the doorstep to even the score, 4-4, at 4:00. Greg Collins drove in a puck on the doorstep after a Jackals turnover at 18:35 of the third, putting Las Vegas on top, 5-4.

Jackals goaltender Garrett Zemlak fell to 1-1 with the Jackals in making 18 saves, while Fallon improved to 17-8-1-2 with 14 saves.

Las Vegas hosts Elmira on Tuesday night in the rubber match of this three-game series at 10:05 p.m. (ET).
