South Carolina Stingrays News Release


NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays closed their three-game series in Florida last week with a come-from-behind victory in the third period, scoring three straight goals to defeat the Everblades 3-2. Despite earlier losses by 3-1 and 3-2 scores to Florida, the two teams are even in the season series, splitting their first six contests. South Carolina is now in third place in the ECHL's South Division with 44 points. Goaltender Parker Milner had another superb week in between the pipes and kept the Rays in each of the three games in Florida with some great netminding. Milner is third in the league with 17 wins on the season and is fourth with a goals against average of 2.35.

South Carolina is enjoying the all-star break this week and will resume play on Saturday night when they travel to Georgia to face the Atlanta Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. The Stingrays then return home to battle Greenville the following afternoon at the North Charleston Coliseum at 3:05 p.m.

WEDNESDAY: FLORIDA EVERBLADES 3, SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS 1

Despite out-shooting the Florida Everblades 35-26, the South Carolina Stingrays were held quiet by goaltender Anthony Peters and fell 3-1 Wednesday night at Germain Arena. The loss ended the Stingrays winning streak that had spanned seven games dating back to Dec. 27. Steven McParland scored the lone goal in the loss for South Carolina late in the first period, while SC netminder Parker Milner made 23 saves.

FRIDAY: FLORIDA EVERBLADES 2, SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS 1

(Germain Arena - Estero, FL)

One goal was all the South Carolina Stingrays could muster on Friday night against goaltender Anthony Peters and the Florida Everblades, falling 2-1 at Germain Arena. Forward Rob Flick scored the lone goal for South Carolina on the power play, while goaltender Parker Milner kept his team in the game with a 30 save performance.

SATURDAY: SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS 3, FLORIDA EVERBLADES 2

(Germain Arena - Estero, FL)

Trailing by two at the start of the third, the South Carolina Stingrays staged a three-goal comeback in the final period to defeat the Florida Everblades 3-2 at Germain Arena on Saturday night. Colton Saucerman played a big part in the resurgence by scoring his first goal of the season and adding an assist, while Scott Tanski netted the game-winner and Parker Milner made 26 saves to earn his 17th victory of the season.

PENALTY KILLING PROWESS

After holding Florida to 2-for-17 on the power play during the week-long series, South Carolina is now 5th in the ECHL with a penalty killing rate of 86.1%. When the team allowed a goal to the Everblades while short-handed on Friday night, it was the first time the Stingrays had allowed a power play tally since Dec. 28, which broke a streak of seven games with perfect penalty killing.

ESCAPING THE CLOSE ONES

The Stingrays have been successful in close contests this season, with a record of 10-4-1-1 in one-goal games. South Carolina has also done well in overtime, winning six of their eight games that have gone to extra time.

MAGIC MILNER

Goaltender Parker Milner has been carrying the load in between the pipes during the last three weeks. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native is now 3rd in the ECHL with a total of 17 wins on the season. Milner has a goals against average of 2.35 on the year (4th in ECHL) with a save percentage at .909. The netminder was in the goal for all three games in Florida last week, holding the Everblades to just seven total tallies during the series. With all the time in between the pipes, Milner has now racked up 1,509 minutes of gameplay, which is second-most in the ECHL behind Tulsa's Jamie Phillips.

SAUCERMAN STARTS THE COMEBACK

Defenseman Colton Saucerman got the comeback started Saturday night with his first goal of the season with a blast that beat Florida netminder Anthony Peters during an SC power play at 6:47 of the third. The blueliner also added the primary assist on the next goal by taking an initial shot before Patrick Gaul deposited the rebound into the back of the net. Saucerman now has a goal and seven assists for eight points in 21 games played this year.
