Florida has played one less game than the Stingrays, but the two teams meet up in a battle for first place on Friday and Saturday at the North Charleston Coliseum. South Carolina is 5-3-1-0 versus Florida this season.
MILESTONE AT 200
Forward Patrick Gaul will play his 200th ECHL game on Friday night. Gaul, an alternate captain with South Carolina, has skated in 199 career ECHL games, all with the Stingrays, posting 84 points (32 goals, 52 assists). Gaul is in his fourth season with South Carolina. Additionally, Head Coach Spencer Carbery has 198 wins at the helm and could earn his 200th win this weekend.
CZECH MATE
Stingrays goaltender Vitek Vanecek claimed a pair of wins this past weekend to improve his record on the season to 14-7-0-3. The Czech Republic native recorded his second professional shutout on Thursday, stopping 28 shots in a 4-0 win at Greenville. The netminder has won seven straight games for South Carolina and is unbeaten in regulation since January 23. Vanecek sits in fourth place in the ECHL with a 2.08 goals-against average, the top mark among ECHL rookies. He was a second round draft pick of the Washington Capitals in the 2014 NHL Draft.
