South Carolina Stingrays News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. The South Carolina Stingrays announced the team's playing schedule for the 2003-04 season today. The Rays are set to play in their eleventh season in the East Coast Hockey League. The two time Kelly Cup Champions will play a 72 game schedule beginning on October 17th in Greensboro, NC. The team's home opener is set for Saturday, October 18th, when it hosts the Greenville Grrrowl. The ECHL has swelled to 32 teams including teams on the West Coast, which were granted membership this spring.

The Stingrays new schedule features a six game eleven-day road trip to California and Idaho beginning in February. The team will visit the Long Beach Ice Dogs, San Diego Gulls, Bakersfield Condors and Fresno Falcons in California and play a two game set in Idaho against the Steelheads.

"The Board of Directors of the East Coast Hockey League have worked hard to bring in quality membership on the West Coast," said Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. "We are excited to have the opportunity to travel to play some of the leagues new members out West.

The Stingrays will play in the Southern Division of the ECHL with nine other teams. The Southern Division includes the Stingrays, the Augusta Lynx, Charlotte Checkers, Columbia Inferno, Florence Pride, Florida Everblades, Greensboro Generals, Greenville Grrrowl, Gwinnett Gladiators and the Roanoke Express.

The new schedule features three first time visits to the North Charleston Coliseum. The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies will visit the Rays on Saturday, November 1st. The Gwinnett Gladiators will visit three times, beginning on Friday, December 12th and the Anchorage (Alaska) Aces will make the long trip to the Lowcountry for a two game set on March 16th and 19th.

"Our fans will enjoy seeing some these new teams playing at the Coliseum as well as the return of some traditional rivals," noted team President Taylor Lee.

The addition of Roanoke, Charlotte and Greensboro into the Southern Division will also serve to rejuvenate some old rivalries.

"Charlotte in particular was one of our first rivals, when we came into the league in 1993," added Jason Fitzsimmons. "The addition of Charlotte along with Roanoke and Greensboro will definitely make our division even more competitive.

The Stingrays have a variety of ticket packages available for the upcoming season starting as low as $102.50. For more information call 744-2248.
