South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Cail MacLean announced today that defenseman Zach Jones has re-signed with the team. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Jones, 23, appeared in 18 games for the Stingrays last season scoring four assists before his rookie campaign came to an end due to injury. Prior to turning pro, the Lisle, IL native skated for four seasons with the University of North Dakota registering 11 points (1g, 10a) and 237 penalty minutes in 168 games.
"Zach is the ultimate competitor and he feels that he has a lot to prove after missing much of the season due to injury last year," said MacLean. "He showed great character through tough times and I'm very excited to have both his positive attitude and his aggressive defensive game back in our lineup this season."
Jones was also a member of the U.S. National Under-18 team from 2003-2005 netting two goals and eight assists for ten points in 50 games and skated alongside current NHL'ers Patrick Kane, Phil Kessel, and Peter Mueller. Jones' brother Matt played 106 games with the Phoenix Coyotes of the NHL.
