
Stingrays Give Special Gifts to Country-Music Star and Lowcountry Native Darius Rucker

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, in partnership with 103.5 FM WEZL, presented country-music star and Lowcountry native Darius Rucker with a custom Stingrays jersey and one-of-a-kind bobblehead this morning, Monday, August 12, during the unveiling of Darius Rucker Boulevard in the Montague Terrace at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Stingrays also announced their plans for Darius Rucker Night on Saturday, January 4 against the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
Stingrays President Rob Concannon presented Rucker with custom #13 jersey, in honor of his friend, favorite athlete and NFL legend Dan Marino, and a bobblehead in his likeness showcasing his roots to the Charleston area. During the presentation, Concannon announced that the Stingrays game on Saturday, January 4 will be Darius Rucker Night featuring a bobblehead giveaway to the first 2,000 fans. In a surprise move by Rucker met by thunderous applause and cheers, he announced he will sing the National Anthem before the game.
Rucker, who attended Middleton High School in West Ashley and formed the world-famous rock band Hootie & the Blowfish while attending the University of South Carolina, is a Grammy (Hootie & the Blowfish) and Country Music Association (solo) award winner. Throughout his career, Rucker and his bands sold over 20 million albums and on October 16, 2012, he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Stingrays kick off their 21st season of hockey in the Lowcountry on Saturday, October 19 against the defending Kelly Cup Champion Reading Royals at 7:35 p.m. in Reading, Pennsylvania and celebrate Opening Night, Stingrays Alumni Game, Zooperstars! and 2013-14 schedule giveaway presented by Savage Law Firm at the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday, October 26 against their in-state rivals, the Greenville Road Warriors, at 7:05 p.m.
Hall of Fame players such as Jason Fitzsimmons, Dave Seitz, Brett Marietti, Nate Kiser, Rob Concannon and Matt Scherer along with fan-favorites Pierre-Luc O'Brien, Johann Kroll, Trevor Johnson and more return to the Coliseum ice for a pregame Alumni Game before the Stingrays battle the Greenville Road Warriors later that night.
