Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - The Las Vegas Wranglers, along with Head Coach and General Manager Mike Madill, announced Monday that former Wranglers defenseman Aaron Power has been named assistant coach of the team for the 2013-14 season.
"I'm very excited to have Aaron join the team as an assistant coach, and having him will help in countless areas," said Wranglers Head Coach and General Manager Mike Madill. "As a player, Aaron was always a power play specialist, and those skills can be passed on to our players and will be something our team will benefit from. Aaron has a huge connection with this city and our team, and fans really enjoyed watching him play. I know they will be excited to have a personality like his back around the rink."
Power, 31, played nine seasons (2003-12) of professional hockey before retiring in 2012 to pursue a firefighting career. The Cambridge, Ontario native spent six seasons in the ECHL, three of which (2006-08, 2010-11) were with the Wranglers. As a defenseman for Las Vegas, Power posted 28 goals and 55 assists, and was one of few blueliners to record a hat trick in club history, with two of the three goals coming on the power play.
"I played hockey professionally for a long time, and I still have that desire in me to be a part of it," said Power. "While I definitely miss playing, it was a decision I had to make so I could refocus that time and effort toward becoming a firefighter. I played with Mike and became good friends with him, and here we are today. Vegas is home to me now."
Before his seasons with the Wranglers, Power appeared in 54 American Hockey League games for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (2003-04) and Cleveland Barons (2005-06), tallying four goals and three assists. He also spent three seasons overseas (2008-10, 2011-12) in Germany and Italy, collecting 15 goals and 23 assists.
Power is expected to make his coaching debut alongside Madill during the Wranglers' 2013-14 home opener on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7:05 p.m. against the Utah Grizzlies.
Season tickets for the Wranglers' 11th season are on sale now. The Wranglers offer flexible payment options on all plans, and 2013-14 packages start at just $200. Full season tickets can be reserved for as low as 25 percent down, and include benefits such as buddy passes, exclusive team events, and merchandise discounts.
