South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, TX - The South Carolina Stingrays (14-10) erased a two-goal deficit, but the Allen Americans (14-8) prevailed 3-2 in double overtime in Game 4 of the Kelly Cup Finals at the North Charleston Coliseum Sunday evening. The best-of-seven series is tied 2-2.
The Americans kicked off the scoring 6:15 into the first period as forward Dyson Stevenson lifted a backhanded shot over the blocker of Stingrays netminder Jeff Jakaitis (L, 34 saves on 37 shots). Less than a minute later, forward Greger Hanson knocked in a rebound to give the Americans a 2-0 advantage at 6:44. Capitalizing off the momentum built during a 5-on-3 power play, forward Derek DeBlois put the Stingrays on the scoreboard batting a rebound past the left leg of Americans goaltender Riley Gill (W, 44 saves on 46 shots) at 9:02. Defensemen Marcus Perrier and Scott Ford earned assists.
Stingrays forward Caleb Herbert evened the score at 11:49 of the second period redirecting a pass from forward Joe Devin over a fallen Gill for his third goal of the postseason. Defenseman Lee Moffie earned the second assist.
After a quiet third period, the Stingrays rifled 10 shots and generated numerous scoring changes in the first overtime, but the Gill made several spectacular saves to force a second overtime. In the second extra session, it was Jakaitis' turn to make key stops before Americans forward Vincent Arseneau buried the game-winning goal at 8:49. The Stingrays finished 0-for-6 on the power play while the Americans went 0-for-3.
The Stingrays host the Americans for Game 5 is Tuesday, June 9 at 7:05 and Game 6 is Wednesday, June 10 at the North Charleston Coliseum. Tickets are ON SALE NOW! Buy Tickets
