Stingrays Fall to Walleye in Overtime in Game 6; Toledo Forces Game 7 Tomorrow Night

Toledo, OH - Forward Joe Devin scored twice, but the South Carolina Stingrays (11-8) fell to the Toledo Walleye (11-9) 5-4 in overtime in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals at Huntington Center Tuesday evening to force a decisive Game 7 tomorrow night in Toledo, Ohio. The best-of-seven series is tied 3-3.

Stingrays forward Wayne Simpson began the scoring 3:24 into the game snapping a pass from forward Andrew Rowe under the glove of Walleye netminder Neil Conway (W, 28 saves on 32 shots). Forward Derek DeBlois added the second assist. Rowe made it 2-0 at 10:57 with his team-leading 11th goal of the playoffs from DeBlois. The Walleye responded under two minutes later as forward Shane Berschbach tapped in a loose puck off the left post of Stingrays goaltender Jeff Jakaitis (L, 29 saves on 34 shots) at 12:17. Late in the frame, Walleye forward A.J. Jenks capitalized on a power play to lock the game up 2-2 at 18:13.

The Walleye carried the momentum into the second period as forward Kyle Bonis tucked a loose puck past Jakaitis at 3:05. The Stingrays knotted up the contest at 6:56 as Devin blasted a shot between the legs of teammate Caleb Herbert and past Conway. Forward Patrick Gaul and defenseman Frankie Simonelli earned assists. Less than a minute later, former Stingrays forward Alden Hirschfeld put the Walleye back in front and make it 4-3 at 7:53.

Devin buried the game-tying tally 5:15 into the third period batting a bouncing puck past Conway with help from forward Sean Dolan. For the second straight game, the Walleye prevailed early in the extra session as forward Tyler Barnes buried the game-winning marker at the 4:30 mark beating Jakaitis between the legs after quick passing from defenseman Scott Czarnowzan and Berschbach.
