Sarnia, ON. - After completing rounds one through three of the 2023 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection on Friday night, Sarnia Sting General Manager Dylan Seca and his scouting staff completed the remainder of the Draft Saturday.
With the 17th overall selection, Seca added 5'10" winger Ryan Brown from the York-Simcoe Express U16 AAA team. The Newmarket, Ontario native tallied 33 goals and 34 assists in 34 regular season games played in addition to 3 assists through 4 appearances at the OHL Cup.
On the addition of Brown, Seca comments:
"Ryan is an electric skater who plays with a ton of pace. He shows skill in tight and can score. We also love his competitiveness and love for the game. We are thrilled to add Ryan and the Brown Family to the Sarnia Sting family."
With the Club's second round selection, the Sting were proud to add 6'0", 152-pound right-handed defenceman James Barr of the Burlington Eagles U16 AAA team at 39th overall. In 36 regular season games the Oakville, Ontario native recorded 7 goals and 31 assists in addition to 3 goals and 3 assists through 8 playoff games.
"James is a smooth-skating, right-handed shot puck mover. We see tremendous upside in his game and are excited to welcome the Barr family to Sarnia." comments Seca.
With the Hockey Club's final pick on Day One of the OHL Draft, the Sting welcomed Lane Sim of the Weeks Majors U18 AAA team. The 5'5.5 centreman, who has Sting bloodlines, tallied 16 goals and 29 assists through 33 games played. His father Jon Sim amassed 211 games played and 312 points with the Sting and was a member of the Club's inaugural Hall of Fame Class.
